So Emma started daycare this week at Kendra's house. Emma is one of five kiddos and the only girl. Everything has been going well and Kendra is wonderful. Emma seems so happy when I go and get her and the boys love her. They call her "baby Emma" and they tell me all about what she did during the day, it's very cute. Best part about Kendra's house is that it is only about 2 blocks from my school, so she is nice and close. Today when I woke up (after my shower and getting ready) I was watching the news and school had been canceled....SNOW DAY! It was strange because at that point there was no snow on the ground, but that changed a few hours later. Here's a pic out my back door. At some points today I couldn't even see my neighbors' houses because it was blowing so much. I did get a chance to make some yummy, chocolate, peanut butter cookies. I probably don't really need the cookies, but I did eat them with a glass of skim milk!
I just felt like throwing this one in here. This is last weekend lounging on the couch together.

Picture Fun

Here are some pictures of us at two months. I thought it would be fun to see who Emma looks like. I think she is a good mixture of both of us, I can't tell who she looks more like, but I can see things that are Josh and things that are me. Sorry my pic is so dark (it is the best I have).

3 Months Old

It's been about a week so I thought it was time to write something. Last weekend I wasn't feeling well so we didn't do too much on Friday and Saturday. Luckily Emma is still young enough that she enjoyed laying on the couch with me. I still don't know what was wrong I had a fever and just felt "blah", but it didn't amount to much. When I got up on Sunday I felt fine. At church the ladies who work in the nursery got to play with Emma. She was actually awake this time and I guess she was "chatting" and smiling the whole time with them. It was such a nice day, that after church we headed to Southlands to walk around and get out of the house. I didn't really have any shopping to do, but it is always fun to window shop and look around. Then we headed to Grandma Pamela's house. She and Emma spent some time outside in the sunshine. Pamela kept Emma while I headed to lunch with Jamie.
Three Months Old Today!!!! The most exciting thing that has happened this week is that Emma slept through the night---for three nights in a row! Every night at around 2 am I would shoot up from bed worried that she was starving....but I would find Emma snoozing away. Here she is tonight in her crib (we are going to try this), maybe she'll stay there all night (the other nights she was still in her bassinet in our room). I've tried the crib other nights, but it's like she knows she's alone and she doesn't stay asleep as long as when she is in our room. One step at a time I suppose.

First Week Back

Well my first week back to work is over! I made it through! It wasn't too hard. It was nice to see all my students again. They were all excited to see me and to see pictures of Emma. Now I have four days to spend with her---working part-time is great! Emma has also been sleeping more and more at night. She has been going 6 hrs. on average and last night she went 7 1/2 hours! I would say that is sleeping through the night. And after she gets up it is only because she is hungry and then she goes right back to sleep after. Going to bed has been much smoother in the last week as well. For a couple weeks there it was rough. Emma would get too tired and then just would not (and could not) settle down to fall asleep, so we had a few late nights. I think we have it figured out now and so far this week falling asleep (and staying asleep) has been perfect!

Back to Work

After eleven weeks off for maternity leave, today was my first day back to work. It was easier than I had expected (thank you Shelbi!). Shelbi came from Greeley, giving up her Spring Break, to help out with Emma this week. So Emma is still at home...just not with me, I think that is why it wasn't too bad. I totally trust Shelbi and Emma is in her own environment. Next week she is with a friend also and then Emma starts real daycare on the 23rd. It is an in-home daycare and I know the lady because her kids go to my school, and I had her son in second grade. She is wonderful and her children are wonderful! I think you can judge a lot about someone by how their kids are--of course there are always exceptions. I'm just speaking from what I have seen through my years of teaching. So work went fine. My school kiddos are great and were excited to see pictures of Emma. I had two breaks during the day that gave me time to pump, so that was good. Overall I think I did pretty well, only calling twice and texting once to check in!

Church

Here is what Emma looked like for her first church nursery experience (she didn't even know she was there!): Today Emma went into the church nursery for the first time. She has been to church, just not in the nursery yet. I wasn't ready for that yet, so she's been going to the service with me---But I volunteer in the Sunday school once a month and today was my first day back doing that so Emma went to the nursery. She was only one of two babies and she slept the whole time. I told them they could just leave her in her car seat....and that is where she stayed the whole time just snoozing away! Maybe next Sunday she will be awake. The lady working said she wanted to hold her so badly--but she didn't because she didn't want to disturb her nap (which is good for me because Emma had a very late night and needed to sleep!).
That is all for today. I am headed to lunch and a movie with a friend while Grandma Pamela babysits!

HOME

We are home from our vacation to San Diego. We had a wonderful time! (thank you mom and dad for everything!). Emma was terrific on the plane both there and home. It is nice to go places, but it is always nice to be home (and in your own bed). This is from this morning. Emma was on the floor---a bit fussy and I was in the kitchen. When I went to check on her Buster was laying by her (he was very comfy on the couch before this), I think he was trying to comfort her!

Last of San Diego

My brother, Jeremy, lives in San Diego so we got to spend some time with him while we were there. We haven't seen each other in over seven years, so it was great to catch up after so long. I hadn't seen his daughter Hope since she was four so it was fun to see how much she has grown up. While staying in the RV with my parents here is where Emma slept. It is like a little tent. It has a mattress and everything, but folds up nice and small so it was perfect to travel with.
We visited the Wild Animal Park. It is like a zoo, but many of the animals are our on acres of land roaming as if it were their natural home. It was neat to see them out in the fields and not in cages. Of course no predators were with their prey! Here is Emma at the beginning of our day while we were watching a bird show---she seems pretty interested!
Emma has been smiling a lot lately....and one of her favorite people to smile at is Papa.
Look!!! I was there with everyone else (one of the few pics with me in it!)!
To see many of the animals we had to ride a train that took us out to see the animals int he field. Here we are before leaving.
I didn't want to bore everyone with a bunch of animal pictures, but this one makes me laugh. This jeep is inside the lion exhibit and apparently the lions love it!
Josh and I got away one night and went on a dinner cruise. It was the first official "date" we've had since Emma was born. Not the most attractive pic of me, but oh well!
Our last full day there we went on a Harbour Cruise around San Diego Bay. Emma is in the Baby Bjorn inside Josh's coat!

More of San Diego...

Just hanging out in Nona and Papa's RV. Emma loves to lay on the floor and stretch out and look all around. She is becoming very aware of the world around her. This is the afternoon we went down to Embarcadero. This is in San Diego bay. There are ships and different sites to see. Here are some family pics, it was nice to have my parents with us so that we are all in a picture......usually I am behind the camera! Emma enjoyed the views from the Baby Bjorn......I think she pretty much slept all day.
This is a statue that was made from that famous "soldier kissing a nurse" photo after WWII. It was huge...as you can tell by us standing near it.
Behind us here is the USS Midway air craft carrier. It was the longest serving air craft carrier of the 20th century. It served from 1945 to 1992----47 years!! It carried 0ver 75 aircraft and had over 2000 crew.
Josh and I (and Emma) took a self guided tour of some of the old---(not in use anymore) ships from long ago. Behind me here is the Star of India. It is from 1863 and is the world's oldest active ship and a California and National landmark.
A day at the beach. The weather was so nice while we there, of course we had to spend some time at the beach. It was not warm enugh to enjoy the water though (well we put our toes in).
